Planning Your Bridal Hair & Makeup

Planning Your Bridal Hair & Makeup

It’s really hard to know what you want, and really hard to know who can help you. There are plenty of salons that do wedding packages, but it’s important that they specialise in weddings. There are services that completely specialise in wedding hair and makeup and are usually mobile, so you can relax while they come to you. Look for companies and people who have won awards, have a great reputation online or have been recommended by somebody that you can trust. Make a list of all the companies that you like and get in touch with them. Yes, you’ll need to ask for a price and give them a rough idea of what you need them to do (how many bridesmaids, mother of the bride etc), but talking to them about your ideas, even if it’s briefly, can give you a feel for the people who you’ll be working with. After narrowing these down to around three, book a trial with your favourite.

Do your research

You may know exactly what you want and you may not. Either way, get on Pinterest, pin what you like, read magazines and fold down the pages. By the time your trial comes around, you’ll have a pretty good idea of what you want in your head, but that doesn’t mean your hairdresser and makeup artist does. Send them a link to your Pinterest board, or bring in the magazines so they can see what you like.

Making decisions

After talking through the possibilities, your hairdresser and makeup artist should try out many different variations of the look that you’re going for. If you don’t like something, tell them. They just want you to look and feel your best. They won’t get offended! Your trial is there for you to make decisions. These decisions are big and shouldn’t be influenced by anyone else. Go with your heart and what you feel comfortable with. If you feel like your hairdresser/makeup artist isn’t on your wave length, don’t panic, it does happen! Stay calm and book a trial with the next company on your list. When you’ve finally got the look that you really want and have built a great relationship with your hairdresser/makeup artist, you’ll be glad that you made the decision to try somebody else.

Getting plans in place

Make sure you have a plan for your big day. Timings are important! Make sure there is enough time for everybody to have their hair and makeup done (with this great lift kit), and enough time for you! A good tip is to add on an extra 30 minutes just in case. Work out these timings with the professionals and arrange a time for them to get to your location on the day.

On the day

You’ll look exactly how you did on the day of your trial so there’s no need to worry. If you have a breakout, it can be covered. If your hair is too bushy, it can be tamed. Relax… both your hairdresser and makeup artist know what they’re doing so enjoy your morning of pampering! Let us know your favourite bridal hair and makeup looks on Facebook or Twitter! We love to hear from you.
