Top 5 Honeymoon Destinations for 2014
When you exchange platinum wedding rings in a few months’ time you will be officially married. But where will you be starting your first few weeks of wedded bliss? How about an exotic honeymoon? Here is our pick of the top 5 honeymoon destinations for 2014:
Do you love the Mediterranean ambience but can’t stand the crowds from busy tourist hotspots? Croatia, across the Adriatic, is the best of both worlds – quaint cities, sea views and a peaceful atmosphere. A great way of exploring all that Croatia has to offer is a cruise around the Dalmatian Coast. A visit to the city of Dubrovnik is a must, with its historic seaport and cathedral. Split is a beautiful area, home to the Diocletian’s Palace but make sure to spend some time on the beaches at Hvar too!\r\nIf you are looking for a romantic day out, there is nowhere better than Plitvice Lakes National Park. These stunning natural formations create a scenic setting for wild swimming amongst waterfalls and tree canopies. This is getting back to nature in a luxurious form!
Tahiti and its neighbour Bora Bora are strong favourites among honeymooners for the crystal clear waters and chilled Polynesian culture. And their remote location means you can really escape from it all. Tahiti is simply paradise! Tahiti is the home to the capital of French Polynesia, Papeete, where the official language is, you guessed it – French! The market in Tahiti is also renowned, but most people visit for the long, white sandy beaches and blue waters, which allow snorkelling and diving. Tahiti is a chilled out island with a slow pace of life, perfect for unwinding after the excitement of your wedding!
Belize in Central America, has warm temperatures all year round, where you can kick back and enjoy the sun whilst listening to the local Punta music. Like Tahiti, this is a location for escaping the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Belize is home to the world famous Belize Barrier Reef, which is very popular amongst scuba diver enthusiasts. Why not explore it yourself? Or you could always go on a boat ride around the Great Blue Hole (pictured). Both of these are only a few miles off the coast, and easily accessible by boat. If boating isn’t for you, trek through the jungle to visit the Mayan ruins that are hidden away here from modern day life. Or, just lie on the beach and enjoy a good cocktail!
Marrakesh is one of Morocco’s largest cities and is located on the North West tip of Africa. It has long been seen as a trendy and exotic location, where many enjoy exploring the souks and bazaars of the outdoor markets. Marrakesh is like something off the TV, with belly dancers, camel rides through the dessert and snake charmers; it couldn’t be more different than life in the UK. Make sure to visit Jemaa el-Fna one of Marrakesh’s main squares and public spaces. And if you are exploring, Paradise Valley near Agadir is a fabulous location for wild swimming. It’s a popular location for cliff diving too, if you are feeling brave!
Is your other half an animal lover? Then there is nowhere better than Kenya. A safari honeymoon will see you travel by jeep to see the animals in their natural environment, before retiring to a luxurious resort with all of the home comforts you could ever wish for. There is so much more to do here than visit the Maasai Mara though. The Ruins of Gedi are an example of the once beautiful architecture here and some time spent at the Bomas of Kenya will show the history of Kenya’s culture. Don’t these locations sound amazing? We’d like to visit them all one day, if we could. Wherever you end up celebrating your first few weeks of matrimony, congratulations and enjoy!
