Vintage Weddings: How to Get it Right

Vintage Weddings: How to Get it Right

You often see fashions and trends coming back around every few years, but vintage wedding themes are a firm favourite. Here are a few vintage ideas.

You often see fashions and trends coming back around every few years, but vintage wedding themes have been a firm favourite over the last few years. But how do you pull off the perfect vintage affair that looks timeless rather than out-dated? Here are a few ideas:

The Dress

Lace detailing is a key signifier of a great vintage dress, and many will be in an off-white shade. Stick to classic shapes such as A-line skirts and sweetheart necklines, or maybe even a capped sleeve, for a chic dress that is timeless in design. Have you ever thought about wearing your mother’s or grandmother’s dress? That would truly be vintage. Or maybe look online, or through charity shops for the perfect gown. This could save you a lot of money, and it will be authentic! Another option is to buy a brand new gown, that fits these vintage design tips. Your dress could be your something new, something old or something borrowed. (Image: Viva Vintage under CC BY 2.0)

The Rings

For the perfect platinum wedding rings go for the finer details. Vintage engagement rings are often very ornate solitaires, so bear in mind that your wedding band must complement this. We think this would be a perfect match (item code: PRCCT5600) and it’s only £750!

The Hair and Make-up

Once you have the dress, you’ll want to complete your look with elegant hair and makeup. A classic red lip will make your lips look kissable and on trend, and there is nothing quite like a deep black eyeliner cat’s flick. When it comes to your hair, place it up in curls and decorate with a headband or hairpiece. This is a chance to add some subtle sparkle or added interest.

The Invites

Get crafting, because vintage wedding invitations have a homemade (with love) feel to them. Stock up on brown paper and string, before practising your best handwriting. Remember they are only invites, don’t blow your entire budget on asking people to attend – keep them simple.

The Decoration

Now, this is the fun bit, how to decorate your venue. Carry on with the use of lace with lace tablecloths placed over pink cloths, for a subtle dusky pink pattern. Old photo frames make great wall decorations, use a Polaroid camera to take photos of your guests arriving, and floral tea sets make perfect table placements. Stick to muted tones of pink, blue and green with highlights of gold and silver for some added sparkle.

And small headed flowers with plenty of greenery make bouquets and arrangements look more natural (less uniformed) and more in keeping with the vintage theme. For the best vintage decorations raid your local charity and community shops.

You will be able to pick up decanters (perfect as vases) and photo frames for mere pennies. That way you can really go to town, making your venue look spectacular, without spending a fortune.
